PARTNER spotlight: The Breeze & Goldie’s
Louisville and Cincinnati have always seemed like sister cities to me.
They are both river cities with amazing food and beverage cultures and are home to some of the most wonderful people that I’ve met. Sarah Height and Chelsea Monsma are seasoned wine and hospitality industry professionals and two of the most thoughtful, fun, and warm small business owners around. They founded The Breeze with its attached natural wine bar, Canary Club, in 2019. Not long after they expanded and opened their newest concepts, Goldie’s andBar Nada Nada in Louisville’s Nulu neighborhood. Sarah, Chelsea, and their team really can do it all. They offer a curated market that carries wine by the bottle, locally made home goods, cookbooks, and more while serving delicious coffee drinks that are both classic and creative. Check out my conversation with Chelsea below to learn more about what they’re up to!
“Can you tell us the story behind your business — how it started and what inspired you to open?”
We created The Breeze to be an easy, breezy, relaxed space for everyone to explore and enjoy natural wine. We saw the need for people to connect over wine in a way that focused more on the people and the community around them than the high brow and inaccessible ways of the past. Since then, we have expanded that mission into coffee, spirits, chocolate and curated household gifts.
“What is your approach to coffee AT BOTH THE BREEZE AND GOLDIE’S, and what role does COFFEE play in your business?”
At The Breeze and Goldie’s, coffee is a big part of what we do—it’s really about creating a welcoming, easygoing vibe. Our approach is pretty simple: we want coffee to be approachable, just like our wine. No pretension, just really good coffee that people can enjoy whether they’re casual drinkers or total coffee lovers.
We are thrilled to be partnering with Deeper Roots, who focus on quality and ethical sourcing because that’s important to us, and we make sure every cup is made with care. For a lot of folks, coffee is the reason they stop by—it’s their daily treat or a quick pick-me-up that turns into discovering something new in the shop. It helps set the tone, encouraging people to slow down, hang out, browse, and really take in everything we offer. At the end of the day, coffee isn’t just a menu item—it’s part of the atmosphere we want to create at both of our shops.
“What’s one thing you want customers to experience or feel when they are served from a Solo Coffee cart?”
When someone walks into one of our shops, we want them to immediately feel a sense of curiosity and inspiration. Whether they're here for a great bottle of wine, to discover a new artisanal food, enjoy a beautifully crafted cup of coffee, or find a cute, thoughtful gift—we want them to feel like they've stepped into a space that invites exploration and connection. We've always wanted the shops to feel more like a curated experience than just a retail space. We want customers to feel genuinely excited to discover something new—whether it’s a small-batch olive oil, a natural wine from an unexpected region, or a thoughtful gift they didn’t know they were looking for. We want every visit to feel personal, memorable, and worth coming back for!
“What excites you most about the future of your business?”
What excites us most about the future of our business is seeing it grow and become a meaningful part of the Louisville community. We love connecting with new people, introducing new and exciting products, and sharing our passion for great wine and coffee. There’s something special about watching our space become a local favorite.
“How would you describe your communities & how does your business serve it?”
Our community is made up of curious, open-minded people who love discovering new flavors and experiences. As a neighborhood third space, we are proud to offer an environment that makes all feel welcome and connected with their community.
