The story of the Gesha variety is a story of discovery. That fateful Panamanian cupping table in 2004 has become a part of specialty coffee lore. When a dramatically aromatic coffee with a bouquet of botanical notes shows up unexpectedly, paradigms shift and the wonder of what coffee can taste like is rediscovered. Gesha became a sought-after prize - for coffee producers, roasters and connoisseurs - and continues to surprise and delight with its delicate complexity. And Gesha is interwoven into the story of how Deeper Roots and Finca San Jeronimo Miramar discovered what would become a fruitful relationship with each other.

For several years now, Gesha has been a treat - appropriately released around the holidays - and a jewel in the crown of Finca San Jeronimo Miramar and all the amazing coffees they produce throughout the year. In addition to the variety itself which delivers fragrant honeysuckle and rose aromatics and layers of tropical and stone fruits, this year's release is a blended lot of washed and honey processed coffees creating a depth of complexity to explore. Discover for yourself the beauty of Gesha in your cup.

ABOUT THE BRESSANI FAMILY & FINCA SAN JERONIMO MIRAMAR

The Bressani family has operated the beautiful Finca San Jeronimo Miramar for over 100 years, and to just call it a coffee farm would be selling it short. Not only are some fantastic coffees being grown and cared for there, but also jersey dairy cows, honeybees, and exotic tropical fruits. Sitting high above all of this is a gorgeous, protected natural reserve and the forest is the lifeblood of the farm with its volcanic terrain feeding the farm’s natural fresh water springs and powers the farm’s entire processing facilities with hydroelectric power.

Our relationship with the Bressanis started back in 2013 on the grounds of Finca San Jeronimo. Since then, we’ve had the pleasure of working directly with their farm and mill management team, helping them develop an understanding of coffee quality once it hits the cup and give them more purpose behind their already stellar experimentation, processes, and logistics operations. Because of this relationship, we continue to see improvements in quality each year and will be continuing to taste and share their latest experiments and variety selections from the wonderful farm.
