PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: Kehila
At Deeper Roots Coffee, we're fortunate to partner with folks that see coffee as more than just a beverage.
Darah and her team at Kehila Coffee in Liberty, Indiana are a perfect example of that. Located on the town square, Kehila has created a welcoming space where neighbors, families, students, and friends can connect over coffee. Their commitment to genuine hospitality, building community, and pursuing quality mirrors the values that guide our own work as a roaster. Kehila has built something special—a coffee shop where people feel known, conversations happen naturally, and great coffee brings the community together. We're grateful to be their roasting partner and to play a small role in what they're creating in Liberty.

Kehila Coffee Owners – Tayler, and Darah
Kehila Coffee opened in 2021 and just celebrated 5 years – congratulations! Can you share with us what inspired you to open the coffee shop?
I believe every small town needs a coffee shop. I wanted to bring something different and unique to our downtown area while creating a ripple effect for others to create and feel seen.
How do you hope people Feel when they visit your shop?
It is my hope that people feel a sense of peace not only when they walk through the door but when they leave as well. It is important to make our customers feel at ease and not feel hurried by the day.
What is your philosophy when it comes to coffee and what does “quality” mean to you?
Going to a coffee shop should be an experience. Whether it's making a drip or latte for someone, it takes intentionality and time. We want the customers to feel that intention with every sip and know that we have partnered with a team that produces good coffee.
You’re based in Liberty Indiana. Before you opened, I wasn’t aware of any specialty coffee shops in that area. How do you introduce people to specialty coffee if they’re new to it?
We introduce people by making what they want and are comfortable with then slowly make suggestions on what would be better. For example, a lot of our customers like specialty lattes that have a lot of sugar. As they start coming regularly, we suggest making drinks with fewer pumps to give them a more balanced drink where you can taste the coffee. We want everyone who walks through our doors to have the drink they desire but also taste the quality of what they're drinking.
What’s on the horizon for Kehila?
We have some goals to start making our house made syrups regularly. Our manager, Tayler and I recently purchased the building we're in and the building next door. We have some big dreams of expanding the shop and creating a patio space in the back that would act as a greenhouse in the winter months where we can grow our own herbs and some veggies for our kitchen and drinks.
We’re so thrilled to be working with Kehila Coffee in Liberty, Indiana. If you’re in the area, please pay them a visit!
