Same Roots, Shared Future.

For more than a decade, we at Deeper Roots Coffee have worked alongside Vienna Coffee Company in Maryville, Tennessee.

Behind the scenes we have been building a relationship rooted in shared vision and values. While much of this collaboration happened quietly, our teams have long supported one another through conversations about sourcing, service, and what it means to build specialty coffee businesses centered on people. Founded in 2001 by John Clark, Vienna became a cornerstone of the coffee community in Maryville and throughout East Tennessee. When John began considering retirement, it felt natural that Vienna’s next chapter could continue with partners who already understood and valued what he had built. In November 2023, our ownership team: Les Stoneham, Ryan Doan, Courtney Robinson, Jon Lewis, and Adam Shaw, purchased Vienna Coffee Company, formalizing a partnership that had already been growing for years.

While this transition marks an important milestone, much remains unchanged. Deeper Roots Coffee and Vienna Coffee Company will continue operating as separate businesses, each with its own name and identity, and a deep commitment to its local community. Our cafés, teams, and local relationships continue to guide our goals and decisions, with both companies serving their customers independently. What has evolved is still primarily behind the scenes. By working more closely together, we are able to share systems, operational efficiencies, and collective experience that strengthen both organizations while preserving what makes each company unique.

One of the most exciting outcomes of working together is our ability to combine purchasing power in green coffee sourcing. Together, we can access better coffees while investing more meaningfully in the communities where those coffees are grown. Our combined volume allows us to deepen long-term producer relationships and increase investment in sustainability practices that support both people and the environment. Just as importantly, we all benefit from a collaborative knowledge base and the accumulated experience of service-focused coffee companies. There's a renewed energy for further growth of Vienna Coffee throughout the region. The partnership allows us to combine what each company does well while still embracing the differences that keep us focused on our respective communities. Our goal is to remain deeply local while becoming stronger together, continuing to serve with the same care and purpose that have always defined both companies.
