Iyenga AMCOS

Iyenga Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society Members.

Iyenga village is located in Tanzania’s Songwe region in the south. Agriculture is the main source of income for the people who live in the community, with beans and coffee being the main crops produced. Taylor winch Tanzania works together with Iyenga AMCOS (Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society) in coffee business through trainings and buys coffee from the AMCOS.

The AMCOS was founded in 2013 and the cooperative now has 292 registered member farmers. The farmers in Iyenga are dedicated to improving the quality of their coffee through implementation of the training procedures taught during processing and farming activities.

Iyenga AMCOS are eager to partner with donors to engage in social projects. Currently they are seeking assistance for the construction of toilets at the local primary school in Iyenga village. The school, catering to over 500 students currently only has 8 toilets – 4 for boys and 4 for girls.

AMCOS is proposing an additional 8 toilets for the school, aiming to improve the hygiene conditions for the students. Funds from this round of our Community Giveback program will contribute to the total cost of that infrastructure.

Youth & Women’s Entrepreneurship Program

Since the beginning of the program in 2018, 87 people have participated in the youth & women’s entrepreneurship program in partnership with Street Business School who developed a training program to assist women and youth in starting sustainable business ventures rooted in the local economy. This program allows members of the community to create reliable income streams for the future in Imbaseni and adjacent Villages.

The course is run and managed by Jifundishe Street Business School Graduates who are certified as coaches. It is a 6-month program with the aim of building the capacity of women and youth in the community on best entrepreneurial practices to create sustainable business opportunities.

The program runs annually from May to December. It is built on 3 key components: selection, business content and support or relationship development. The budget for the program annually is $4,500, and funds from each bag of Community Blend sold will be donated directly to the program!
