An Update to our Coffee Grind Settings
We believe good coffee is built on a lot of small, consistent details. One of those details that comes up around here all the time is grind size. Whether it’s a barista dialing in a coffee or someone at home trying to get the most out of their morning brew, getting the grind right can make a big difference.
We’ve spent some time digging into the grinders and settings we use here at Deeper Roots, and we’ve taken all of that information and boiled it down into five simple categories for ordering coffee online. In the past, our grind options could feel a little confusing, so we wanted to make things easier. Now, instead of trying to figure out a specific grind setting, you can simply select the brew method you use at home:
UPDATED GRIND OPTIONS:
Fine: Espresso / Moka Pot
Medium-fine: V60
Medium: Drip
Medium-coarse: Chemex / Kalita Wave
Coarse: French Press / Cold Brew
These settings are based on what we’ve found to be good starting points for each brew method. There’s actually a lot more science behind this than you might expect. We’ve done sieve analysis that breaks each grind setting down by the percentage of coffee particles falling within different micron ranges, but we’ll save all of that for another blog post, or maybe another email newsletter.
Of course, coffee is personal. If you know that you like your coffee a little finer or coarser, go for it! These aren’t rules—they’re our recommendations based on what we’ve learned from brewing a whole lot of coffee. Our hope is simply to make the process a little clearer, take some of the guesswork out of ordering, and help you make a more consistently delicious cup at home.
